Let’s be honest: we to often, yet unintentionally, put roadblocks in the way of the very people we’re trying to reach.
My first real run-in with a Keurig was years ago at my in-laws’ place. At the time, it felt convenient, press a button, boom: coffee. But over time, the trade-offs became impossible to ignore. The flavor wasn’t great, the pods created a ton of waste, and the machine constantly needed cleaning to keep from tasting like burnt plastic. Even my in-laws eventually upgraded to a Moccamaster.
I wrote a full post on why I no longer recommend Keurig machines, but if you’re still using one, the most important thing you can do (aside from switching) is to keep it clean.
The best cleaning solution I’ve found is the Urnex Descaling Powder.
It cuts through the mineral buildup and coffee oils that ruin the taste of your brew, and it works for any machine, not just Keurigs. I actually use it for my Moccamaster, both at home and now at my in-laws.
If your Keurig has started tasting funky or taking longer to brew, it’s likely time for a deep clean. Skip the vinegar and grab something that actually works.

I’ll be honest, I don’t use a Keurig anymore. My first real experience with one was years ago at my in-laws’ house. Back then, it felt like the height of convenience:...
